AFF3

Full Name: AF4/FMR2 Family Member 3

Genomic Location: Chromosome 2:99,545,419-100,142,739

Protein Size: 1226 amino acids

Function:

This gene encodes a tissue-restricted nuclear transcriptional activator that is preferentially expressed in lymphoid tissue. Isolation of this protein initially defined a highly conserved LAF4/MLLT2 gene family of nuclear transcription factors that may function in lymphoid development and oncogenesis.

Linked SNP(s):

  • rs4851266 is linked to AFF3, it is located approximately 90,000 bases downstream.
  • Population frequencies are approximately 68% for the reference allele (C) and 32% for the alternate allele (T).
  • Studies suggest the T allele is associated with increased years of schooling and cognitive processing.
