Full Name: Bradykinin Receptor B2
Genomic Location: Chromosome 14:96,204,679-96,244,329
Protein Size: 391 amino acids
Bradykinin and related kinins are a family of small peptides which act as mediators of pain and inflammation. They exert a variety of biological effects on the endothelium and peripheral circulation through their action on two bradykinin receptor subtypes: B1 and B2.
This gene encodes a receptor for bradykinin. The 9 aa bradykinin peptide elicits many responses including vasodilation, edema, smooth muscle spasm and pain fiber stimulation. This receptor associates with G proteins that stimulate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system.
- rs1799722 is linked to BDKRB2, it is located in the 5’-UTR region.
- Population frequencies are approximately 60% for the reference allele (C) and 40% for the alternate allele (T).
- Studies suggest the T allele is associated with endurance athletes
