Full Name: Kynurenine Aminotransferase 3

Genomic Location: Chromosome 1:88,935,773-88,992,960

Protein Size: 454 amino acids

Catalyzes the irreversible transamination of the L-tryptophan metabolite L-kynurenine to form kynurenic acid (KA). May catalyze the beta-elimination of S-conjugates and Se-conjugates of L-(seleno)cysteine, resulting in the cleavage of the C-S or C-Se bond. Has transaminase activity towards L-kynurenine, tryptophan, phenylalanine, serine, cysteine, methionine, histidine, glutamine and asparagine with glyoxylate as an amino group acceptor (in vitro). Has lower activity with 2-oxoglutarate as amino group acceptor (in vitro).

Linked SNP(s):

  • rs708012 is apparently linked to KYAT3, although it is not located on the same chromosome.
  • Population frequencies are approximately 62% for the reference allele (C) and 38% for the alternate allele (T).
  • Studies suggest the T allele is associated with social anxiety.
